Brat Bríde

At An Gáirdín on Saturday, February 3rd, 2pm - 4pm

We are all aware of the revival of interest in St. Bridget - Naomh Bríd. Her strong and generous spirit is resonating deeply with women today. As patron saint of crafts, of healing and of poetry her appeal is indeed gaining strength.

We are long familiar with the weaving of Brigid’s cross and the stories associated with it. We may be less aware of the tradition of Brat Bríde. We hang a piece of cloth outside on Brigid’s eve to be blessed by Brigid with her healing qualities as her spirit passes over the country. It is then taken in on the following morning February 1st, Brigid’s feast day.

This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to enter into the spirit of this tradition. Bring along your Brat – your scarf and learn how to embroider it so that it becomes a family heirloom. Please don’t buy new, charity shops are full of scarves and rugs which can easily be transformed. Share stories and poems with this passionate facilitator, all other materials provided. Do let us know if you are coming.
